WHAT ARE HANDMADE VOLUME FANS?
Handmade volume fans are a type of eyelash extension technique used in the beauty and cosmetic industry. They are a method of applying multiple lash extensions to a single natural eyelash, creating a voluminous and dramatic look. The term "handmade" refers to the fact that each fan is created manually by a skilled lash technician, as opposed to using pre-made fans or clusters.
Here's how handmade volume fans work:
Fan Creation: To create a volume fan, the lash technician takes very thin lash extensions (often labeled as "volume lashes" or "mega volume lashes") and picks up a certain number of them, typically 2 to 6, depending on the desired volume and the natural lashes' strength. The technician then uses their hands or specialized tweezers to carefully spread out and arrange these lashes into a fan shape.
Attachment: The volume fan is then attached to a single natural eyelash using a tiny amount of adhesive. This process is repeated for each natural eyelash that is strong enough to support a volume fan.
Results: The end result is a fuller and more dramatic appearance, with a higher lash-to-lash ratio compared to classic eyelash extensions, where one extension is applied to each natural lash. Handmade volume fans can create a "fluffier" and more textured look, making the eyelashes appear thicker and more lush.
Handmade volume fans require a high level of skill and precision on the part of the lash technician because they involve creating the fans and attaching them individually. The goal is to achieve a full and glamorous look while ensuring the health and safety of the client's natural lashes.
WHAT ARE PREMADE VOLUME FANS?
Premade volume fans are pre-fanned clusters of multiple eyelash extensions that are designed to make the process of applying volume lashes quicker and more efficient for lash technicians. Unlike handmade volume fans, where lash technicians create fans of multiple lash extensions by hand during the application process, premade volume fans come ready-made in various fan sizes and configurations.
Here's how premade volume fans work:
Pre-Fanned Clusters: Premade volume fans consist of several very thin lash extensions that are already fanned out and attached at the base, creating a fan shape. These clusters are usually made with anywhere from 2 to 10 or more lash extensions in each fan, depending on the specific product and the volume effect desired.
Attachment: A lash technician selects the appropriate premade fan for the client's natural lashes and attaches it to a single natural lash using adhesive. This process is repeated for each natural lash that can support a fan.
Results: The end result is similar to handmade volume fans in that it provides a fuller and more voluminous appearance, with a higher lash-to-lash ratio compared to classic eyelash extensions.
Premade volume fans are popular because they save time for lash technicians since they don't have to spend as much time manually creating fans during the application. This can lead to faster appointments and potentially lower costs for clients. However, the key is to use high-quality premade fans and adhesive to ensure the safety and longevity of the extensions.
It's essential for lash technicians to select the appropriate size and weight of premade fans to avoid placing too much weight on the natural lashes, which could lead to damage. Like with handmade volume fans, it's important to seek a skilled and certified lash technician who uses safe and quality products when considering premade volume fan extensions.
THE TWO TYPES OF PREMADE VOLUME FANS
There are two types of premade volume fans: glue-bonded and heat-bonded. Let’s take a look at the differences between them.
TYPE1: GLUE-BONDED PREFANNED VOLUME LASHES
Like handmade volume fans, glue-bonded prefanned volume lashes use adhesive to hold together the individual lashes that make up the fan. To add glue-bonded prefanned volume lashes to your clients, you’ll need to use adhesive to attach the fan to your clients' natural lashes.
Glue-bonded prefanned volume lashes look and work well, but may be too heavy for your clients. Because the fans are held together using adhesive, they weigh more than heat-bonded prefanned volume lashes. Additionally, since you’ll need to add additional adhesive to the end of the fan, it can be hard to achieve seamless attachment to your client’s natural lash. The adhesive that holds the fan together and the adhesive that attaches the fan to the base of the natural lash might form a small clump that’s not ideal.
TYPE 2: HEAT-BONDED PREFANNED VOLUME LASHES
If you’re concerned about lash weight or adhesive clumping, look into heat-bonded prefanned volume lashes. In these fans, the lashes are sealed together at the bottom using only heat.
Because these fans are sealed with heat, they’re lighter and easier to maneuver than glue-bonded prefanned volume lashes. You don’t need to worry about adding extra weight to your client’s natural lashes or dealing with adhesive clumps that make attachment harder to achieve.
Are Premade Volume Fans good or bad?
Advantages of Premade Volume Fans:
1.Time Efficiency: Premade volume fans can save time during the eyelash extension application process because they eliminate the need for the lash technician to manually create fans. This can lead to faster appointments.
2.Consistency: Traditional premade fans are generally uniform and symmetrical, which can provide a consistent and precise look.
3.Cost Savings: Faster application times with premade fans might result in lower costs for clients.
Potential Drawbacks of Premade Volume Fans:
1.Limited Customization: Traditional premade fans offer less customization in terms of the number of lash extensions per fan and the angle of the fan. This may not be ideal for clients seeking a highly tailored lash style.
2.Weight and Lash Health: If the premade fans are too heavy for the natural lashes or not applied correctly, it can lead to damage to the natural lashes, including premature shedding and breakage.
3.Quality of Products: The quality of premade fans and adhesive used is crucial. Low-quality products can result in poor retention, allergic reactions, and other issues.
4.Safety Concerns: If premade fans are not applied with proper isolation (ensuring that each natural lash is individually isolated and supported), it can lead to clumping and damage to natural lashes.
